Mary Ellen was bored with reading so Grandpa suggested an alternative for the afternoon. They caught honeybees in a jar and then released them one at a time and chased them to learn where their bee tree was located. Many people from the town joined in the chase, and enjoyed the honey treat at the end. But Grandpa had an extra sweet lesson for Mary Ellen that helped her appreciate her reading all the more.

Mrs. Kent’s 6th grade class made the following comments about The Bee Tree:
Brushawn: I think the book was good because we live around bees and we can find a bee tree.
Montea: I think that chasing bees is bad because people like to take the bees’ honey from the hive.
James M: I like this book because the little girl and her grandpa spent the day together running after a bee until it went to the bee tree so that they could get the honey.
Earl: The Bee Tree is a funny book how everyone was running after a bee.
James D: I think that it was a fun adventure by chasing bees and finding the bee tree.
Bennie: The bee tree is a good book. And it shows us how to catch a bee.
Demarious: This book was good because it taught us about bees and how they make honey.
Jay: I would not run after the bee. I would get stung. I like it.
Jeanene: The book “The Bee Tree” by Patricia Polacco is a very good book. I am so happy that the girl’s grandpa taught her a very valuable lesson about her reading a book. It was a great book.
Dionna: I think this story called “The Bee Tree” is a very good story because it gives you good information about a bee tree and it helps you figure out one way to get honey for free.
Nadaija: I think that The Bee Tree was very funny because when one person asked to join everyone joined. Would you join your friends? If you say yes then I know that you would have quite an adventure.
Jennifer: The little girl and other people in the story chased after the bees. That was an exciting part.
Erica: The bee tree is a great book. I learned something new, that was that I didn’t know that smoke was that powerful to the bees.
Dayjah: I like this book because I like when they followed the bees and found out where the bees’ tree was.
Shamya: I think that The Bee Tree was a learning information and a great way to understand bees and trees.
