My Rotten Readheaded Older Brother by Patricia Polacco

What does a young girl do when her older brother can do anything and everything better than she can – and reminds her of it every day? Tricia tries hard to find a way she can beat him at something and finally does it, but it didn’t turn out like she expected. Patricia Polacco is full of surprises, and this book keeps that tradition very well.

I read this to my fifth grade students. Look for their comments below.

Samonni: I like the story “My Rotten Redheaded Brother” because in the story Trisha was trying to go against her brother, and then her brother had taken her into the house on his back.

Jessica: The first time I read this story I liked it. But I heard it over and over again so that’s why I didn’t like it this time.
(Mrs. Green’s reply: I’m sorry. I’ll try to do better.)

NoName: I like the book, My Rotten Readheaded Older Brother because she never beat him at anything and she made a wish and did. And that changed the way they acted with each other.
